Yasmin El-Rufai was the daughter of Hadiza Isma El-Rufai and Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai. She gained a bacheler’s degree (Politics with Economics) from the University of Bath, UK and a masters degree (Political Economy of Late Development) from the London School of Economics. An intelligent and well-read young woman, Yasmin died in her flat in London on 26th November, 2011 while undergoing a law conversion course.


YASMIN EL-RUFAI FOUNDATION is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization duly incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria. It was established in 2013 by Mrs. Hadiza Isma El-Rufai in memory of her daughter Yasmin El-Rufai, who had a great passion for literature, creativity and knowledge. The foundation focuses on two programs:

  1. Creative Writing Program (CWP)
  2. Women Literacy Program (WLP)
